HeyGuys Meaning

The HeyGuys emote is used on Twitch as a greeting to say “hello” or “Hey Guys.” Many people use it when they first arrive at a channel to greet the streamer and other viewers in the chat. The emote is the image of Selen Akay, who was a Twitch employee when it was created.

Released: 2014

HeyGuys Emote Origin

The HeyGuys emote was submitted by then Twitch employee Selen Akay, who now has a Twitch channel under the name HeyGuys. At the time, Twitch didn’t have a generic “hello” emote, and she suggested it along with her photo. She normally greeted people, “Hey Guys,” hence the name of the emote.

In January 2017, Akay filmed an interaction with some young people about her identity and her fame as a Twitch emote.
