How to Flip Your Camera in OBS in 4 Steps

calendar1 Last Updated

Many streamers have complained that their cameras don’t show them correctly. They feel disoriented when looking into the camera because they are used to looking into mirrors or smartphones which give a mirrored image. In this article, I will explain how you can flip the image in OBS.

How to Mirror Your Camera in OBS

Here is how you can flip your camera in OBS to make the mirror effect:

  1. Step 1

    Flip Your screen OBS

After launching OBS, make sure that the camera is correctly displayed on your screen.

  2. Step 2

If you need to add a webcam, press the plus button on the bottom of the sources box, then add a “video capture device.” Source the proper webcam.

  3. Step 3

Right-click on your video image on the screen. A pop-up menu will appear. Hover over the “Transform” option, then click the “Flip Horizontal Option

  4. Step 4

    Flip camera OBS mirrored

Your image should now be mirrored to you. Please note that if you are wearing a t-shirt (or item) with words on it, the words will be inverted (as is the case with my shirt).

Is the Mirrored Display the “Correct” Display?

Stream yourself in the way that you feel most comfortable. If you frequently look at yourself on stream and react better if it is a mirrored version, broadcast yourself in that way. Take note, however, that if someone were sitting across from you, they would see the “unflipped” or “unmirrored” version of you.

If you choose to flip your camera into a mirrored position, take care to not wear shirts with writing on it or hold up anything with writing on stream. The letters will be displayed backward, which could potentially annoy a few viewers.

Many people have become used to seeing images and videos online with people in the mirrored position. They understand that streamers and influencers prefer this look because it is what they are personally used to seeing.
