How to Add a Game to Twitch

calendar1 Last Updated

Can’t find a game or category you want to stream on Twitch? Just add one. Twitch adds eligible games based on their inclusion in the IGDB, a public database operated by Twitch that tracks games and gaming knowledge. They’re bound to miss something though. That’s where you come in.

This post will cover how to sign-in to IGDB and add a game, cover art, and Twitch categories.

How to Add a Game to Twitch

To add a game on Twitch, please complete the following:

Step 1: Visit IGDB.com/discover and click ‘LOG IN’. Log in using your Twitch account.

Step 2: Find the ‘GAMES’ drop down menu and select ‘+Add Game.’

Step 3: On the next page, enter title, description, cover image, game type, and version. Click ‘Create Game’ when done.

Step 4: You can also add information, including:

  • Categorization
  • Release Date
  • Companies
  • Websites
  • Videos
  • Screenshots
  • Story
  • Engine
  • Age Rating

This information is not needed to create the game on IGDB, but it will help in the review process of getting the game approved for Twitch. There are a few restrictions when it comes to adding games to IGDB. Games are restricted based on two criteria:

  1. The official ESRB rating is Adults Only
  2. The game violates IGDB’s community guidelines as it applies to hate speech, sex, nudity, gratuitous gore, or extreme violence.

You can read our article about banned games on Twitch or look at Twitch’s list to find out which games are not included.

How to Add a Game Cover Image

Does the cover art for a game need to be updated? You can make the changes in two easy steps.

Step 1: Go to the game’s page and click edit, near the title.

Step 2: On the edit page, click ‘Choose File’. Click ‘Update Game’ once the new photo is selected.

All the images you add to Twitch must meet the following requirements:

  • Ratio: 3:4
  • Size: 600×800

How to Add a New Twitch Category

If you’re looking to get away from games, you can also recommend IRL categories for Twitch. Users can post their idea for a new category here on the Twitch UserVoice forums. Other users can then upvote those posts. Twitch will then take posts with high vote counts into consideration. Maybe we can get a sewing category up and running?

Conclusion

Be the change you want to see. If a game or a category is not present on Twitch and you want it, go get it. But for real though, let’s get sewing added.
